Recursive computation of moments of 2D objects represented by elliptic Fourier descriptors

چکیده
This paper develops a recursive method for computing moments of 2D objects described by elliptic Fourier descriptors (EFD). To this end, Green’s theorem is utilized to transform 2D surface integrals into 1D line integrals and EFD description is employed to derive recursions for moments computations. A complexity analysis is provided to demonstrate space and time efficiency of our proposed technique. Accuracy and speed of the recursive computations is analyzed experimentally and comparisons with some existing techniques are also provided.

Region and Contour Identification of Physical Objects
The region occupied by and the contour of a physical object in 3-dimensional space are in a way dual or interchangeable characteristics of the object: the contour is the region’s boundary and the region is contained inside the contour. In the same way the characterization of the object’s contour by its Fourier descriptors, and the reconstruction of its region from the object’s multidimensional ...
متن کاملA recursive updating rule for efficient computation of linear moments in sliding-window applications
The computation of linear moment matrices, whose elements are defined as zeroth order integration values of an image, was recently introduced as a tool to reduce the computational cost required to obtain the geometric moments of an image. The main relevance of these matrices is twofold: on one hand, they can be eficiently obtained by means of accumulation filters, which only require additions; ...
متن کاملPattern Recognition and feature extraction: a comparative study
The selection of features for classifying a pattern by means a fuzzy reasoning, is fundamental in order to obtain a reliable and significative response. The scope of this work is to compare three methods specialized for the extraction of features from images and, consequently, to study the ability of classification performed by applying a fuzzy inference system. The methods to be compared were:...
متن کاملNew 3D Fourier Descriptors for Genus-Zero Mesh Objects
The 2D Fourier Descriptor is an elegant and powerful technique for 2D shape analysis. This paper intends to extend such technique to 3D. Though conceptually natural, such an extension is not trivial in that two critical problems, the spherical parametrization and invariants construction, must be solved. By using a newly developed surface parametrization method–the discrete conformal mapping (DC...
متن کاملA Recursive Approximation Approach of non-iid Lognormal Random Variables Summation in Cellular Systems
Co-channel interference is a major factor in limiting the capacity and link quality in cellular communications. As the co-channel interference is modeled by lognormal distribution, sum of the co-channel interferences of neighboring cells is represented by the sum of lognormal Random Variables (RVs) which has no closed-form expression. Assuming independent, identically distributed (iid) RVs, the...
